Emily Todd is the founder of Ruby, a Las Vegas-based sock company built around the idea that useful things don't have to be boring.
Before founding Ruby, Emily spent nearly two decades in nursing, including years in acute care and work with patients from a wide range of circumstances. That experience shaped how she thinks about people, work, caregiving, business, and the things we choose to make.
She founded Ruby in 2020, originally as Ruby Protective Apparel, after seeing an opportunity to create better products for healthcare workers. What began in healthcare has since evolved into Ruby: a colorful sock company making compression, grip, and everyday socks for people in motion.
But Emily has never been particularly good at staying in one lane.
Through Ruby's Library, she writes about the subjects that catch her attention, from history and science to art, culture, Las Vegas, nursing, and the wonderfully strange corners where those things intersect. Her work is driven less by expertise than curiosity: asking good questions, finding people who know extraordinary things, and following a subject wherever it leads.
She is also the creator and host of The Ruby Socks Podcast, an extension of that same curiosity through conversations, field recordings, oral histories, and stories worth preserving.
Emily lives and works in Las Vegas, Nevada.
